Hillary Rodham Clinton

Hillary Rodham began her political career as a young Republican activist in 1964. Rodham was inspired by a Martin Luther King Jr speech and became a democrat in 1968. In 1969, Rodham was elected Senior Class president of Wellesley College and later graduated that year. While attending Yale for law school, Hillary Rodham met Bill Clinton. Rodham spent her summers at Yale working for various politicians in Washington D.C. and became a member of the presidential impeachment inquiry staff in 1974. After the resignation of, at that time, President Richard Nixon, Rodham took a teaching job in Arkansas, where Bill Clinton just happened to also be teaching. Towards the end of 1975, Hillary Rodham married Bill Clinton in Arkansas. From this point, Hillary Clinton's political career began to speed up.

In 1976, Clinton worked with the campaign for Jimmy Carter, who went on the be elected. The next year, Clinton put her law degree to work again by joining a law firm in Arkansas. During this same year, Jimmy Carter appointed Clinton as the part-time chairman of the Legal Services Corporation. Along the same time Bill Clinton was spending his days as Governor of Arkansas, which gave Hillary Clinton an abundance of political insight. During Bills time as governor, Hillary had many great accomplishments. Hillary Clinton was able to chair the Arkansas Educational Standards Committee, co-found the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, serve of he Arkansas Children's Hospital, Legal Services and Children's Defense Fund Board, and also served on TCBY's and Wal-Marts's Boards. It should be noted that at this point in her career Hillary Clinton was named one of the most powerful lawyers in America by the National Law Journal. In 1992, during Bill Clinton's presidential campaigning, Mrs. Clinton was noted to be an extremely positive advocate for her husband. Once Bill Clinton was elected, he appointed his wife, in 1993, to the head of the Task Force on National Health Reform which later failed. Hillary Clinton then spent time overseeing the creation of quite a few programs and  acts, most notably the Children's Health Insurance Program, the Adoption and Safe Families Act, and the Foster Care Independence Act.

In 1998, after Bill Clinton's presidential impeachment, Hillary focused on herself and began her national political run. The Clinton's moved to New York and this is where Hillary decided to run for United States Senator. In 2000 Hillary Clinton ran and won, becoming the first American First Lady to run for public office. Additionally, Clinton's time as Senator of New York hold the fact that she was the first female senator to represent a State in America. All the way up until the 2006 election, which Clinton won, she held to office of New York Senator. At this point, Hillary Clinton was not satisfied. In 2008 Clinton was barely beat out by Barrack Obama in the presidential nomination race. After winning, President Barrack Obama appointed Hillary Clinton as United States Secretary of State in 2008. This appointment made Hillary Clinton the first women to serve in a president's cabinet.  Up until the present, Clinton is working as Secretary of State and considered to be one of the most powerful women in the world and has spent time and effort promoting the empowerment of women. Hillary Clinton is one of the top prospected politicians, on the Democratic side, to run for president in 2012.

Sarah Palin

Picture
Sarah Palin began her political career at the local level when she was elected to Wasilla, Alaska city council in 1992. After being reelected to the Wasilla city council in 1995, Sarah Palin's career in politics began to take off. In 1996, Sarah Palin ran for mayor of Wasilla and defeated mayor John Stein whose incumbency failed to get him reelected. Palin's main political views at this time were centered around wasteful spending and high taxes. After gaining popularity, Palin was reelected in 1999 and served her second consecutive term as Mayor of Wasilla that came to a close in 2002. During her time as Mayor, Palin was known to be extremely popular in the community and also a great leader of city officials.

After a successful local political career, Sarah Palin moved towards the State-level to peruse further political ranks and initially placed in second for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor. After campaigning and networking, then Governor Frank Murkowski offered Palin an appointment to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. During this appointment Palin was in charge of the safety and efficiency of Alaska's oil and gas fields. During this time, Palin found many ethical and moral issues regarding other members of the oil industry. After only a short time from 2003-2004 at this particular position, Palin resigned. From 2003 to 2005 Sarah Palin was a director of a, more than 500 member, group that was created to train Republican Alaskan women in politics. Sarah Palin became Alaska's first female governor in 2006, after beating yet another incumbent. At the young political age of 42, Palin was the youngest governor in Alaskan history. It may be noted that in 2007 polls showed a 93% and an 89% popularity rating, making Palin not only powerful, but also popular. Sticking to her Republican roots, Palin spent a large amount of her time promoting drilling in Alaskan Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Palin's ANWR drilling debates gained attention of national proportions.

After resigning as Alaskan state Governor in 2009, Palin was able to put full attention to her vice-presidential campaign that had begun in 2008. After pairing with John McCain in presidential candidacy, the two lost to Barrack Obama and Joe Biden. Since the vice-presidential candidacy Palin has been involved with a number of political events such as the Tea Party Movement and the "Pink Elephant" Movement. As of 2010 Sarah Palin is said to have been interested in possibly running for President of the United States in 2012. If Palin choses to do so, and wins, she will be the first female President in United States history.
